A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge set a trial date for 53-year-old Leond Hill for fatally shooting a Maryland Transit Administration bus driver last October.
During the defendant’s arraignment on March 13, Judge Melissa Phinn reviewed the following charges against Hill and the maximum penalties for each charge in Maryland:
First-degree murder: a maximum of life
Firearm use in a felony violent crime: a minimum of 20 years, the first five years without parole
Having a handgun on his person and having a loaded handgun on his person: three years, a $2,500, or both, per charge.
Hill told Judge Phinn he plans to hire his own legal representation for trial, which was scheduled for May 16.
The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) previously reported that Hill was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2023 and extradited back to Baltimore. He is accused of shooting 40-year-old Columbia resident Elaine Jackson multiple times on Oct. 18, 2022, around 5 p.m. on the 1500 block of Washington Boulevard.
