The case of homicide defendant Gold Leroy Bass Jr. was extended, once more, for a mental health evaluation for the 49-year-old murder of Harry McGee and Nathaniel Sheppard.
Bass, who is a month away from his 73rd birthday, had his case brought before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale Rasin on March 8. Judge Rasin said an extended competency evaluation was initially signed on Feb. 8 and due on Wednesday; however, the defendant is scheduled for a neurological outpatient evaluation on March 11.
The prosecution and defense attorney Sharon Bogins Eberhart agreed to a 60-day extension, with plans to return to mental health court on May 10.
The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office previously reported that on Dec. 21, 1973, Bass and his friend were buying marijuana from the two victims who were in the front driver’s and front passenger’s seats of a vehicle. After Bass and his friend got into the backseat, the vehicle then parked outside Wakefield Apartments on the 4900 block of Challedon Road, where there was an exchange of words followed by a gunshot fired by Bass.
Bass is accused of fatally shooting both men.
