Opening statements began in the case of a 39-year-old man charged with first-degree murder on Oct. 18 before Baltimore City Circit Court Judge Barry Williams.
The prosecutor described the day the victim Marcus Wilson was skateboarding with his 5-year-old daughter, when a man approached him and initiated a conversation. Wilson was then stabbed twice with a knife, one of which was directly into his heart.
Surveillance footage from the 200 block of S. Conkling Street where the attack took place would be shown during the trial, warned the prosecutor, noting that it showed the suspect fleeing the scene.
The defendant, Nicolas Figuroea, is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon in connection with the March 2021 fatal stabbing.
An forensic investigator with the Baltimore Police Department testified that DNA swabs taken from the knife were later proven to match the defendant.
An officer also testified to locating the knife the following day in the parking lot of Abbott Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The trial for Figuroea ended for the day following the BPD expert and is set to continue on Oct. 19 at 9:30 a.m. with Judge Williams presiding.
