During a Sept. 6 violation of probation hearing, it was ruled that a convicted gunman will be released to a mental health program.
Dauntae Emerson, 33, was convicted of first-degree attempted murder and having a handgun on his person in August 2008.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie Hong said the Director of Admissions for Unlimited Bounds, a treatment center for psychiatric rehabilitation, contacted her and said they have placement for the defendant upon his release. She also said Emerson attended Unlimited Bounds before and did well in the program.
“It was unclear if the treatment center would provide Emerson’s transportation, or would it have to be done by the state,” said Judge Hong.
Emerson’s defense counsel Sharon Dubey, a stand-in for another attorney unknown to Baltimore Witness, informed Judge Hong that she just received the case on Friday and had not had time to speak with her client.
The prosecutor said she wants the defendant to plead guilty to a plea in order to postpone a disposition hearing. Baltimore Witness could not get further information on the plea offer.
The prosecutor said the plea would give Emerson “extra incentive” to do well in the Unlimited Bounds program.
Judge Hong assured the prosecutor and defense that they would all work as quickly as possible to make sure the defendant gets into the program and receive the mental health treatment he needs.
Emerson’s next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 3.
