A homicide defendant rejected a plea of life on Sept. 30 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Derrick Creek, 38, is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on Oct. 30, 2021.

Creek and his defense attorney, Lawrence Rosenberg, rejected a plea of life with the first five years without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder and use of a firearm during a felony violent crime.

According to Fox Baltimore, John Wilford, Jr., 45, was shot in the head on the 1000 block of Hillman Street at E. Chase Street.

Medics transported him to John Hopkins Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Creek’s trial is scheduled for May 16, 2023. It is expected to last for four days.
