Jury Finds New Years Day Shooter Not Guilty on All Charges

A 56-year old man accused of attempted murder over two years ago has been found not guilty of all charges on April 20 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Videtta Brown.

Charles Hopson was acquitted of first and second-degree attempted murder, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm during a violent crime, two counts of possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging firearms and illegal possession of ammunition in connection to an incident that occured on Jan. 1, 2020.

Initially, on Jan. 10, Hopson and his defense attorney, Derrick Hamlin, rejected a plea offer of life, suspending all but 30 years with five years probation for first-degree attempted murder and five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime, with all charges set to run concurrently.

According to Baltimore Fox, in the early morning of New Years Day, officers were called to the unit block of South Gay Street in response to reports of shots being fired, where they found a 42-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Hopson’s trial began on April 18 and the jury reached a verdict on April 20.
