The trial for a Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder continued March 18 after his mother told the jury that he told her he committed the murder.
Danjuan McBride, 24, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use during a violent crime, and two counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on July 25, 2020.
The prosecution told the jury that a possible motive of revenge based on two alleged confessions McBride gave his mother and stepmother.
During Friday’s court proceedings, his mother said he told her, “I did it. I killed someone and need to move.”
His stepmother, who was played a video tape of her interview at the police station, was questioned about two phone calls she had with McBride after the incident.
She said McBride told her “he caught him slippin’” and “he finally got him.”
The prosecution said McBride was looking for revenge after the victim had allegedly shot and killed his uncle a few years ago.
McBride was represented by defense attorney James Scott.
Scott questioned the lead detective over his evidence collection methods and if the detective led McBride’s family members into providing incriminating answers. He argued that the detective had made assumptions during the case and not done his due diligence with all the potential evidence at the scene of the crime.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Ausby is presiding over the trial.
McBride’s trial is scheduled to continue on March 21.
