A man suspected of a double shooting rejected a plea offer on Sept. 23 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Draqwon Walker, 21, allegedly shot two men around 4:45 p.m. on the 3000 block of Oakford Avenue on Sept. 4 2020. The two victims were taken to hospitals for treatment.
The prosecution’s plea offer was life, suspending all but 30 years, for attempted first-degree murder; and 20 years, the first five without parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime, with three years probation, all to be served consecutively. Walker would also have to register as a gun offender.
Even though it does not seem as if either victim died, Walker was charged with second-degree murder. He was also charged with attempted first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, rifle/shotgun possession with a felony conviction, and discharging firearms.
Walker and his defense attorney, Linda Zeit, rejected the offer.
Walker’s Hicks date—his right in Maryland to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance—was Sept. 22. He chose to not waive this right, but Judge Melissa Copeland found reasonable cause to do so.
A trial was set to begin on Dec. 8.
