An attempted murder defendant is set to return to Baltimore City Circuit Court in two months.
Baltimore resident Derrel Jones is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging a gun in Baltimore, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of a firearm with a prior felony conviction. He also faces two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm.
The charges stem from a shooting on Oct. 31, 2019.
During reception court on July 6, Jones’ defense attorney, Lawrence Rosenberg, said he was interested in a plea that would consolidate a separate case in which Jones, 30, faces six drug-related charges. The prosecution agreed to negotiate a global plea.
The case was scheduled to appear before Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer on Aug. 13 to put forth the offer; however, Judge Melissa M. Phinn presided over the case during reception court on Friday.
Rosenberg was not present, and the prosecutor explained that the case is scheduled for a violation of probation hearing on Oct. 6, with Judge Schiffer presiding.
