A 19-year-old man who allegedly strangled and shot a woman in April was denied bail before Judge Cynthia H. Jones on Aug. 9 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Baltimore resident Kamarri Kweli Davis is charged with second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, being a minor in possession of a firearm, and use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure.
On Monday, defense attorney Tiffani Collins told Judge Jones that Davis, 19, maintains his innocence, noting that when he was charged, he voluntarily turned himself in to the police. Davis has no prior criminal record, and Collins requested he be released on home detention.
The prosecutor provided minimal details on the case; however, she said Davis allegedly strangled the victim until she lost consciousness and then shot her on April 27, 2021.
“Davis poses a possible flight risk,” the prosecutor said, “and should be held without bail.”
Judge Jones denied bail. Davis is scheduled to appear in reception court on Dec. 12.
