Jury Selection Begins for Second Suspect in Cookout Shooting

Jury selection began on Nov. 6 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn Stewart Mays for Therron Spencer, 28, for his alleged involvement in a shooting during a cookout at the 3100 block of Oakford Avenue on Mar. 30.

The defendant’s father, Brandon Spencer, 49, was acquitted of eight charges by a Baltimore City jury in connection with the same case on Oct. 22.

Therron Spencer is charged with multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, multiple firearms charges, and reckless endangerment.

According to court documents, on March 30, a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer was flagged down by bystanders in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, BPD supposedly recovered several cartridge casings on the ground and blood evidence.

The victim was taken to Sinai Hospital suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his jaw, legs, and lower back in critical condition.

At the cookout, an apparent argument broke out, causing a man to intervene. Another man then allegedly pulled a firearm out of his crossbody bag and began firing, who witnesses later reportedly identified as Brandon Spencer. A second male was seen on CCTV footage allegedly firing more shots towards individuals and fleeing down Oakland Avenue. Witnesses also reportedly identified the second male as Therron Spencer, son of Brandon Spencer.

Therron Spencer, according to police reports, has outstanding warrants in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, all reportedly due to parole violations.

Proceedings are scheduled to continue on Nov. 9.
