The jury trial of a duo accused of fatally shooting 44-year-old Ricky Forehand Jr. and assaulting and attempting to kill another man was postponed on Aug. 24 due to the unavailability of both defense attorneys.
Gregory Granger, 42, and Ritchie Hicks, 31, were scheduled to begin trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy, but were sent to Judge Melissa K. Copeland’s postponement court earlier Monday morning. According to the prosecution and stand in defense counsel,Granger’s attorney, Staci Pipkin, is trying another homicide case for the rest of the week, while Hicks’ attorney, Natalie Finegar, is out for medical leave, beginning Aug. 25.
Judge Copeland and counsel agreed to reset the co-defendants’ four-day trial, beginning Dec. 7, before Judge Handy.
On Dec. 16, 2024, Baltimore Police were called for a reported double shooting on the 1200 block of W. Baltimore Street where they found Forehand and the other male victim, according to court documents. Both victims were taken to University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma for treatment.
The surviving victim was listed in stable condition; however, Forehand died from his injuries around 6:40 p.m.
During the investigation, police learned that the surviving victim was assaulted earlier in the day around 3:30 p.m., later resulting in the shooting just after 6 p.m. Police later identified Granger and Hicks as the suspects who shot Forehand and assaulted and attempted to kill the other victim.
In addition to multiple articles of clothing found at the crime scene, police also recovered 13 9mm casings, five .20-gauge casings, two projectiles and nine 7.62 rifle rounds.
