The murder trial of Davontaye Watkins was scheduled on August 7 in a reception court hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Defense attorney Staci Pipkin represented Watkins.
Watkins, 29, is charged with two counts of first degree murder, firearm possession and numerous handgun charges in connection with a February 16, 2024 shooting on the 900 block of N. Carrollton Avenue.
According to charging documents, the Baltimore Police Homicide Division was notified of a fatal shooting. A patrol officer was already on the scene after responding to the sound of gunshots in the area. At the scene, police found Dwayne Lester Flintall Jr. unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. After being transported to the hospital, Flintall was pronounced dead.
According to CCTV footage , a suspect vehicle was near the scene before, during and after the shooting. After arriving, Flintall was ambushed then gunned down after exiting his vehicle. Two suspects were identified, one of them being Watkins. The suspect vehicle was reportedly found 100 yards from Watkins’ residence.
According to telephone records ,Watkins and the co-defendant are associates and communicated with each other before the incident. After further investigation, over 40 cartridge casings were found at the scene.
During the pre-trial hearing, the prosecutor offered Watkins a plea deal for life suspending all but 60 years for first degree murder and 20 years with five years no possibility of parole for firearm use. Watkins rejected the agreement.
His five-day trial is scheduled to begin December 14.
