Jury selection for Absolon Castillo-Martinez, 27, was delayed because there was a problem transporting the defendant to court on time. On Aug. 4 jury selection actually began two hours late before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Fletcher-Hill.
Castillo-Martinez is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and multiple firearm charges, and is represented by defense attorney Lawrence Rosenberg.
On July 31, 2025, CCTV footage observed a male suspect walking up and down the 3100 block of Pulaski Street. The two victims parked their car outside of the Eagle Mart nearby. One got out of the car but was then seen running back to his car with the suspect following him.
The suspect then reached into a backpack on his chest and fired several rounds at the victim’s vehicle, then fled across the highway.
On Aug. 1, 2025, Baltimore City Police Officers created a “Seeking to Identify” flyer, and another investigator identified the suspect as Castillo-Martinez. However, the victims of the shooting identified two other people as the shooters, not Castillo-Martinez.
The trial will continue through the week.
