A 26-year-old Baltimore man will head to trial this September after rejecting a plea offer on July 16 for an attempted murder in the city’s Mondawmin neighborhood.
A stand-in prosecutor offered defendant Quandre Evans a plea of 50 years, suspending all but 20 years, and five years of supervised probation for attempted first-degree murder and a concurrent five years without parole for using a firearm in a crime of violence. Evans would also be required to register as a gun offender and have no contact with the victim.
Defense attorney John Deros rejected the offer on his client’s behalf, later adding that he was prepared to proceed to trial.
Counsel agreed on a three-day tria that Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled for Sept. 15 before Judge Paul J. Cucuzzella.
Nearly a year earlier, on Sept. 12, 2025, Baltimore Police found the victim with a gunshot to his right leg around 9:40 p.m. outside Maceo’s Bar on the 1900 block of Walbrook Avenue, according to court documents. However, the victim left the scene of the shooting, which occurred on the 1900 block of Herbert Street.
He was then taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment.
While searching the scene, court documents state, detectives with the police department’s Western District found five 9mm shell casings along Herbert Street and recovered partial video footage of the incident.
Five months later, on Feb. 12, two different witnesses also provided voluntary statements — corroborated with the recovered video — leading to Evans’ identification.
