Defendant Sentenced to 80 Years in Attempted Murder Trial

Eddie Murphy, 41, was sentenced for a total of 80 years before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette C. Ringgold-Kirksey on July 14 for an attempted murder 2025.

The term included 30 years for attempted second-degree murder concurrent with 15 years for three counts of firearm use in a felony or violent crime and 30 years for two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was also sentenced to serve a consecutive five years for firearm possession with a felony conviction.

Murphy also received concurrent sentences of 15 years for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, five years of reckless endangerment and one year each for illegal possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm in Baltimore City.

The charges of conspiracy to commit firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a handgun on his person, conspiracy to have a handgun on his person and two additional counts of reckless endangerment were merged for sentencing.

“He is a threat to the public,” the prosecution said.

The prosecution listed his convictions dating back as early as 2002, including 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2025 to illustrate Murphy’s crimes.

Defense attorney Jason Rodriguez said Murphy didn’t want to continue the sentencing until he heard about his filing for a new trial.

Judge Ringgold-Kirksey said it was denied and they would proceed. He also said Murphy was in between homes at the time of the incident and had been going through a difficult time, which Murphy denied moments later.

Murphy continued to interrupt his defense counsel and Judge Ringgold-Kirksey to allege the officer that identified him at the time of the crime was not credible and that he wants a new trial. He also said he’s not satisfied with the time he’s had with his attorney thus far.

Upon having Murphy’s post-trial rights read to him by his counsel, Murphy maintains his innocence and would like to appeal his case.

One victim was present and did not wish to make an impact statement.
