The court approved a prosecution request for a postponement in Antonio Douglas’ attempted murder trial on July 23, after the case’s original prosecutor had to undergo emergency surgery the day prior.
Douglas, 31, is charged with two counts each of attempted murder, assault, and firearm use in connection to a shooting that occurred last November on the 2400 block of E. Lafayette Avenue. On Nov. 7, 2025, Douglas reportedly approached a man who had been sitting in a car with his 9-year-old son while on the way to pick up his daughter.
Douglas reportedly asked the man why he was there. The interaction soon turned into a verbal argument, and Douglas allegedly punched the victim in the face. The victim started to drive away when Douglas, who was standing in the middle of the street, allegedly started shooting at the car.
On Tuesday, the court noted Douglas’ Hicks date, or deadline for speedy trial, is July 15.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard transferred the case to reception court for a postponement hearing before Judge Melissa K. Copeland, stating attorneys cannot be swapped out during criminal cases.
Judge Copeland ultimately approved the postponement, but noted Douglas’ new trial will have to proceed by July 14.
The court has yet to confirm a date for Douglas’ trial.
