Jury selection began May 4 in the trial of 25-year-old Khaleb Edmonds, who is accused of murdering two 26-year-old men during an August 2023 shooting in West Baltimore.
Edmonds, who faces two counts of first-degree murder and several firearm charges, is being tried before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lazette C. Ringgold-Kirksey. The defendant officially moved to trial after rejecting a plea offer from the prosecutor, which would have carried a sentence of life, suspending all but 40 years.
The investigation began in the early morning hours of Aug. 24, 2023, when Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the 2200 block of W. North Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Myron White inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. A second victim, Darius Hill, was located nearby on the 1800 block of N. Smallwood Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. Both men succumbed to their injuries.
Crime lab technicians recovered 13 9mm cartridge casings among other evidence. According to charging documents, surveillance footage captured the suspect’s movements for several hours leading up to the shooting, as well as immediately after the incident as he fled the scene. Investigators developed Edmonds as a suspect after he was positively identified through that surveillance footage.
Edmonds is represented by defense attorney Staci Pipkin.
The trial is set to continue through the week.
