Jury selection began on Feb. 3 in the trial of Ronald Mitchell Jr., 53.
Mitchell is charged with attempted murder, assault and multiple firearm offenses for his alleged role in a non-fatal shooting incident that occurred last summer in East Baltimore.
On June 6, 2025, at approximately 11:33 a.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter on the 1500 block of Cliftview Avenue, where they located a 26-year-old man who had sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds to his limbs. The victim was transported to a hospital to undergo medical treatment.
Prior to jury selection, Mitchell was offered a plea agreement for the charges of reckless endangerment and firearm use in a felony violent crime. The deal required Mitchell to plead guilty to both charges in exchange for two concurrent 20 year sentences, with only 10 years to be actually served. Mitchell rejected the offer.
Ninety potential jurors were questioned by the defense and prosecution to select the final panel.
