Carlos Freeman, 43, accepted an agreement on June 25 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Levi S. Zaslow, pleading guilty to first-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.
For the first-degree assault charge, Freeman was sentenced to 20 years, suspending all but five years, followed by three years of supervised probation and a no-contact order with the victim. For use of a firearm in a felony violent crime charge, he was sentenced to five years without the possibility of parole. The sentences will run concurrently.
Freeman was involved in a nonfatal shooting incident that occurred on Nov. 17, 2024, at Brother’s Pizza in the 400 block of W. Saratoga Street. Responding officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh.
According to the defense, the incident began when the victim provoked Freeman while he was attempting to get pizza. Freeman allegedly fired at him in response but missed. No drugs were found on Freeman or recovered at the scene.
Defense attorney Thomas Rafter presented the counter offer, which was accepted by the prosecution.
