Baltimore City Circuit Judge Melissa K. Copeland trial date for Takeya Miller, 49. She is accused in a shopping center shooting that started as a birthday party argument.
Miller is charged with first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, reckless endangerment, having a loaded handgun on his person, and discharging a gun within Baltimore City.
According to charging documents, on Oct. 6, 2024, at approximately 7:15 pm, a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer received a call from Baltimore County Police regarding a walk-in shooting victim at Franklin Square Hospital. Officers learned the shooting occurred at the center’s parking lot located on the 7600 block of Harford Road.
The victim sustained a non-life threatening graze wound to the right forearm. However, she advised detectives the shooting was accidental and refused to cooperate with authorities.
Officers determined the crime stemmed from an argument among an number of people during a birthday party for the victim’s father on the 1700 block of Harford Road.
During the hearing, Miller rejected the prosecution’s offer of 20 years, suspending all but 10, for firearm use in a violent crime, and five concurrent years for having a loaded handgun on his person. The deal also required three years of supervised probation, no contact with the victim, and mandatory registration as a gun offender.
Miller is set to reappear before Judge Copeland on May 5 for a pre-trial conference hearing.
