Based on insufficient evidence, all charges against murder defendant Tyree Wells, 30, and co-defendant Donta Taft, 29, were dropped before Baltimore City Circuit Court Hope Tipton on April 8.

Wells was initially charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, firearm possession with a prior felony conviction, and having a handgun on his person in connection to the fatal shooting of Jordan Taylor, 25, that occurred on June 12, 2024 in the 1700 block of Ramsay Street.

According to charging documents, police responded to the rear of the building at approximately 9:39 a.m. and located victim Taylor lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at approximately 9:45 a.m.

Nearby surveillance video footage captured Taylor entering and exiting the building the morning of the incident. At approximately 8:30 a.m., Taft allegedly opened fire in the suspect’s direction before handing the gun to Wells. Wells allegedly secured the gun in the crotch area of his pants and fled down Ramsay Street.

The prosecution ultimately concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to proceed with the case.
