A 21-year-old defendant was sentenced to 40 years March 26 for a non-fatal shooting that left two people injured.

Julian Craig, who was represented by defense attorney Staci Pipkin, was sentenced to 40 years during a March 26 plea hearing in connection to an Oct. 17, 2023, non-fatal shooting that left his 25-year-old co-defendant Da’Quantay Bailey and a 24-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

Craig received an aggregate sentence of 65 years, suspending all but 40 years, the first five to be served without the possibility of parole, and five years of supervised probation upon release. He must register as a gun offender and was issued a no-contact order with the victim.

After being indicted with 49 charges, Craig pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony or violent crime.

As previously reported by Baltimore Witness, Craig drove a black Honda Accord to the front of a Royal Farms located in the 1500 block of Russell Street along with Bailey and another co-defendant Jonte Gilmore, 28. During the hearing, it was stated that the Honda Accord was involved in an armed carjacking that happened approximately 45 minutes before the shooting.

Bailey was sentenced to 65 years, suspending all but 40 years for attempted first-degree murder for the incident on July 17, 2024. Gilmore was found guilty of accessory after the fact on Feb. 18 and sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Craig was also pleaded guilty to armed carjacking and firearm use in a felony or violent crime on Aug. 26, 2024 for the same incident. He received a sentence of 20 years in prison for those crimes.

The victim of the shooting was left unaware of the day’s proceedings as the prosecution was unable to contact or locate her.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy emphasized the importance of victim rights, encouraging more attempts to make contact.
