Wayne Coleman, 29, rejected a plea deal on March 6. The prosecution offered to place his attempted murder charge on the stet or inactive docket as part of the deal, meaning the charge would remain indefinitely inactive.
Coleman was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred in the 2300 block of East Hoffman Street. There were two victims in this case, one who suffered a gunshot wound on their neck and one who had a gunshot wound on their thigh. Coleman was arrested five days later after investigators reviewed security camera footage of the incident.
Coleman was initially charged in connection to two separate incidents. In one case, Coleman was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment, among other charges.
In the other case, Coleman was charged with firearm possession with a prior felony conviction, possession of a firearm while distributing a controlled dangerous substance, and having a handgun in person. If Coleman were to plead guilty to the charges in this case, his attempted murder charges would be placed on the stet docket.
Defense attorney Jason Rodriguez informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Michael A. DiPietro said Coleman wished to reject the plea deal and request a jury trial.
The court is currently selecting a jury.
