Homicide defendant Brandon Adams, 19, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin on Feb. 19 after his initial competency hearing on Feb. 13 was postponed.

Adams is charged with first-degree murder and intent to injure with a dangerous weapon in connection to the July 10, 2024 fatal stabbing of 14-year-old Cortez Lemon following an altercation on a Maryland Transit bus on the 4200 block of Frankford Avenue. Officers arrested Adams in the 5300 block of Belair Road shortly after the incident.

Previously, Adams appeared confused about the proceedings.

“While watching the interactions between the police, there were signs of a disconnect shown,” said the prosecution.

The defense expressed concern regarding recent interviews in which Adams, who has a history of being in special education classes and previously received treatment for ADHD and PTSD, struggled with speech and basic understanding.

Judge Rasin signed an order of good cause for an observation hearing and sent a request for a doctor to evaluate Adams’ competency to stand trial.

Adams will return for an observation hearing March 5.
