The jury trial for an attempted murder defendant with 62 charges was postponed on Feb. 4 due to scheduling conflicts with another trial.

Jonte Gilmore, 28, is charged with multiple counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder and assault, as well as various related conspiracy, carjacking, robbery and firearms charges. Gilmore’s defense attorney, James Sweeting III, previously rejected a plea deal on his client’s behalf last October. The state’s offer entailed five years without the possibility of parole and compliance with the Gun Offender Registration Act.

Gilmore is charged in connection to an Oct. 17, 2023 shooting that occurred in front of a Royal Farms located in the 1500 block of Russell Street. According to charging documents, video evidence recovered from the scene showed an Acura MDX pulling up to the Royal Farms location at approximately 1:51 a.m., followed three minutes later by a gray Infiniti with a temporary registration tag that parks on the Acura’s passenger side.

A male victim is captured exiting the Infiniti and entering the Acura to converse with the driver. Investigators later learned that the male victim was accompanied by a female victim who occupied the backseat of the Infiniti. Shortly after, a black Honda Accord parks on the Acura’s driver side and two men – presumed to be Gilmore and codefendant Julian Craig – exit and approach the Acura with handguns drawn.

Both parties open fire, with the victim continuing to discharge as he flees on foot. Craig is reportedly captured dragging Gilmore, who received multiple gunshot wounds to his legs, into the black Honda before a third unidentified collaborator exits the backseat and drives away.

At approximately 2:02 a.m. the same day, officers received a report from MedStar Harbor Hospital of two 24-year-old walk-in shooting victims, one male and one female, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to their legs. Both victims were transported to shock trauma and reported to be in critical condition.

Investigators at the scene of the crime recovered 12 .45-caliber casings, seven 9mm casings, four bullet fragments and one live 9mm cartridge. They also collected two cellphones allegedly belonging to Craig and transferred the gray Infiniti and black Honda to the Southern District, where processing later revealed that the latter vehicle was stolen.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Nicole K. Barmore reset Gilmore’s jury trial date to Feb. 5.
