In an Aug. 5 hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams, a homicide defendant was sentenced to 30 years in prison, suspending all but 15 years, with the first five years without parole.

Cedaria Luckey, 25, was convicted of firearm use of a felony violent crime and voluntary manslaughter. She was initially charged with second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a loaded handgun on her person and voluntary manslaughter for an incident that occurred on Aug. 16, 2023.

During the sentencing, the prosecution detailed the incident before Luckey, her attorney, James Sweeting III, and the judge. According to the prosecution, Luckey and the victim, Nykiah Collins, 24, were arguing in the hallway of an apartment complex on the 1000 block of W. Baltimore Street. Then the defendant pulled out a gun and shot Collins in the head.

“You are heartless and cruel and getting far less than what you deserve,” the victim’s grandmother said during the sentencing,

Luckey pleaded guilty to firearm use in a felony violent crime for 20 years in prison, suspending all but five years without parole, five years of supervised probation and 10 years served consecutively for voluntary manslaughter.

Luckey also has to register as a gun offender and not have contact with the victim’s family.
