Attempted Murder Case Dropped After One Victim Deported, Another Missing

An attempted murder case argued before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays was dropped on July 29 because one of the victims was deported and the prosecution couldn’t contact the other victim.

Luis Ventura-Reyes, 31, was being charged with two accounts of attempted first-degree murder, two accounts of attempted second-degree murder, two accounts of first- and second-degree assault, two accounts of reckless endangerment, two accounts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, wearing and carrying a gun on his person and discharging any gun in relation to a May 31, 2023, incident on the 1500 block of Cypress Street.

The prosecution was able to get in contact with the victims’ family last Friday. They couldn’t contact the victims, who are brothers, and didn’t know where they were. One of the victim’s was deported, and the other is in the process of being deported, according to the prosecutor.

Ventura-Reyes was represented by Ryan Mooney.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Ventura-Reyes allegedly shot at two of his cousins after they had done work on his car in a dispute over money. Baltimore Police Department officers found two shell casings and a trail of blood. The two victims positively identified Ventura-Reyes as the alleged shooter from an array of photos.
