A 30-year-old attempted murder defendant rejected a plea deal before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on Jan. 11.
Willie Harris-Stanley is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, having an unknown firearm in Baltimore City, illegal possession of ammunition and reckless endangerment in connection to an Aug. 1, 2023, shooting.
Harris-Stanley rejected the stand-in prosecutor’s plea offer for life, suspending all but 40 years, with five years of supervised probation and a concurrent sentence of 20 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole, for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Harris-Stanley would have also been required to stay away from the victim in this case as a condition of the plea deal.
Though the assigned prosecutor was ill, defense attorney Martin Cohen told the court he was ready for trial.
Judge Copeland scheduled Harris-Stanley’s trial to begin on April 1 before Judge Charles H. Dorsey III.
