William Elliot, 29, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and turned down a plea offer on April 17, the first day of his jury trial. Elliot is accused of a Sept. 8, 2022 shooting that occurred in the 1800 block of N. Chapel Street.

He is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and several firearm and conspiracy counts.

Arriving at the scene, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers located a man victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest that travelled to his abdomen. He was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

While in the hospital, the victim positively identified a person said to be Elliot as the perpetrator. He also identified Elliot’s girlfriend, 32-year-old Saidah Williams, who allegedly robbed him of his possessions after Elliot shot him. The couple then allegedly fled in a black Honda.

Williams’ case is on the stet docket, meaning she is not currently being prosecuted for her alleged involvement but could be charged later.

The prosecutor offered Elliot a plea deal of life, suspending all but 30 years, with five years of probation, as well as an order to stay away from the victim. Defense attorney Tony Garcia informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yvette M. Bryant that Elliot rejects the offer and wants a jury trial.

The court is currently selecting a jury.
