Trial got underway on April 20 for 38-year-old murder convict Everette Schwartz, who is charged with killing 34-year-old Timothy Orem over two years ago.
Schwartz has awaited trial for Orem’s death since May 2025. Authorities believe that in early 2021, the defendant fatally shot two individuals and injured another within less than two weeks. Surveillance footage and cellphone data tracking allegedly identified Schwartz as the prime suspect of the shootings.
The first shooting occurred Jan. 21, 2021, on the 1700 block of N. Chester Street. The incident left 46-year-old Tavaughn Anderson dead just minutes after midnight.
One week after Anderson’s death, on Jan. 28, 2021, a 42-year-old man was shot on the 1700 block of Wilkens Avenue. The victim survived his injuries. Three days later, on Feb. 1, 2021, Orem was found deceased on the 3600 block of Shelby Avenue.
Schwartz is currently serving a 39-year sentence for Anderson’s death after a jury panel found him guilty last May, and a separate 18-year sentence in the Wilkens Avenue shooting after jurors acquitted him of attempted murder and convicted him on gun charges.
Five years after the shootings, Orem’s death remains an open case.
Schwartz and his defense attorney, Jason Rodriguez, will stand trial for four days before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Alan C. Lazerow.
