An 18-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to a double shooting during reception court on Oct. 19 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Cory Snead is charged with two counts of attempted first and second-degree murder, two counts of first and second-degree assault, two counts of firearm use in the commission of a crime, possession of firearm as a minor, and five other firearm-related charges.
According to WMAR, Snead allegedly shot a 60-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man on May 27 on the 1400 block of N. Central Avenue. The woman was caught in the crossfire between two groups of men shooting at each other.
The plea offer accepted by Snead and his defense attorney, John Cox, is for 25 years, suspending all but seven years, and three years of probation for two counts of first-degree assault; 20 years, suspending all but five years, without the possibility of parole, and three years of probation, for two counts of firearm use in the commission of a crime; and three years for having a handgun on his person. All sentences will be served concurrently.
Snead also must register as a gun offender.
After accepting the offer, Snead asked Judge Melissa Phinn if he could be placed somewhere that he can get his GED and “learn some trades” because he only attended school through the 10th grade. Judge Phinn said that they would try to accommodate his request.
