15-Year-Old Teen Denied Bail After Claiming Self-Defense in Drive-By Shooting

A 15-year-old Baltimore student charged in a non-fatal shooting was denied bail on Jan. 27 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Phillip S. Jackson.  

On Thursday, Judge Jackson listened as the defendant’s defense attorney Tony Garcia argued that he would be using the argument of self-defense in this case. Garcia also said that the defendant has no prior record or history of violence. 

According to the prosecution, on Oct. 6, 2021, at approximately 12:19 p.m. officers were called to the 1300 block of W. Baltimore Street for reports of shots being fired, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot to the lower right leg. The second victim later walked to an area hospital. 

The prosecutor also said the incident was captured on surveillance footage, showing the suspect sitting in a chair as a silver Honda drove by. The driver was seen making a U-turn before the suspect allegedly fired a gun multiple times.

When the driver revealed a weapon, the suspect hid out in a nearby New York Fried Chicken restaurant.

The exchange of gunfire resulted in 10 shell casings and several metal fragments found at the scene.  

In addition, the prosecutor added that the juvenile defendant was identified using a school logo that was visible on his shirt. 

After listening to counsel, Judge Jackson deemed the defendant a threat to public safety and denied bail.
