Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer sentenced Jerome “Jerone” Davis to 15 years in prison on Sept. 16, the first five to be served without the possibility of parole, for his role in a shootout last October.

Davis, 35, was found guilty in July of reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony crime of violence, illegal possession of ammunition, and multiple handgun charges stemming from the incident, which occurred Oct. 30, 2024 on the 2800 block of Woodbrook Avenue. He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg before fleeing the scene and calling the police.

The prosecution pushed for a 27-year consecutive sentence, citing Davis’s criminal history. They noted that he had three prior convictions, including two for domestic violence, which prohibited him from carrying a firearm.

Defense attorney Brandon Thornton urged the court to impose a lighter sentence of 15 years, suspending all but five. He emphasized Davis’s role as a father and his care for sick family members, describing him as a supportive figure.

When given the chance to speak, Davis insisted he did not arrive at the scene intending to harm anyone. He said he never brought a gun, but picked one up from the ground to protect himself.

“I never fired it,” he declared, claiming the weapon discharged during a struggle.

In her ruling, Judge Schiffer stressed the dangerousness of the charges and the danger posed to bystanders when shots were fired in a residential area during daylight.

No further hearings are scheduled in this case.
