The trial of Jamal Burton, 31, continued on April 6 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong with testimony from several witnesses.
The state had two witnesses, though proceedings were delayed slightly as one called out sick and another arrived late, not fully prepared to testify.
Burton is charged with several counts of attempted murder and assault in connection to a Sept. 7, 2025 non-fatal shooting incident on the 100 block of Stonecroft Road.
That evening, a Baltimore City detective responded to reports of a shooting at the incident location. On the stand, he testified seven people were present in the home at the time he arrived, before defense attorney Jerry Rodriguez asked him to look at the footage again to recount all individuals present.
According to court documents, Burton pushed passed several residents, pointing a firearm and demanding, “Give me your f*****g phone,” before taking their cellphones. One witness reported her brother, who was not on scene when police arrived, was struck with a closed first and possibly grazed by a bullet.
Burton was also seen engaging in an alleged verbal dispute with one victim before striking him with a fist and running into a bathroom located on the first floor of the residence. Another suspect allegedly struck a victim three times with a firearm, stating “Ima kill you, b**ch,” before leaving with Burton in a black Volkswagen Atlas.
Body-worn camera footage from the incident shows shell casings on the floor of the house. No Baltimore CitiWatch cameras were available at the incident location.
Crime lab technicians arrived shortly after the incident to process the scene and recovered one live 9mm casing, two fired casings and two projectiles.
The trial is set to continue throughout this week.
