Non-Fatal Shooting
|
A defendant who accepted a guilty plea last year in connection to a non-fatal shooting incident appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams for a show cause hearing on Aug. 5 after allegedly violating the terms of his probation three times.
Tavon Lawson, 43, was charged with several firearm possession violations and discharging a firearm in West Baltimore during a Dec. 29, 2022 incident. On March 5, 2024, Lawson pleaded guilty to firearm possession with a disqualifying felony conviction.
He is currently serving three years of home detention, and his most recent violation reportedly occurred on March 25.
The day of the incident, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the 1200 block of W. North Avenue in response to a ShotSpotter alert. Officers located two victims with gunshot wounds and transported them to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where they both survived.
Lawson later walked into the same hospital with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. According to charging documents, area surveillance footage recorded Lawson discharging a firearm, clearing a jam in the gun and dropping his cellular device near the incident location.
Though Lawson did not shoot the other two victims, who were on his side of the street while he fired southbound, he was charged for the gunfire.
His defense attorney requested a postponement for further time to gather supporting documentation.
The hearing was reset to Sept. 17.
