Dionte Cain, 31, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kimberly C. McBride on Sept. 29 accused of a shooting and a robbery last April.
Cain is on trial for charges of attempted first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, and multiple conspiracy and gun violations for his alleged involvement in the crime.
According to court documents, on April 2, 2024, patrol officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Greenmount Avenue for a report of a male suffering from gunshot wounds to his left wrist and right thigh.
Shortly before the shooting, surveillance footage captured a burgundy Acura MDX entering a parking lot on the 5300 block of York Road. An unidentified Black male, later said to be Cain, was seen exiting the car before approaching and opening fire on the victim as he sat in his vehicle. Cain and his suspected accomplice, later identified as Darnell Johnson, 28, were seen fleeing from the location.
An officer who responded to the initial dispatch claimed he was familiar with Cain, saying the defendant frequented the Family Dollar to pick up cases of water and ice. Cain sometimes offered refreshments to officers patrolling the area, the officer testified.
Cain’s trial is currently ongoing.
