Co-defendants Daeshaun Tyreke Clark, 27, and Devontaye Richardson, 29, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on June 3 to receive a trial date.
Clark and Richardson are charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and multiple felony firearm charges in connection to an Oct. 27, 2024 shooting that left 19-year-old Cameran Holt dead and an unnamed man, then 28 years old, injured.
According to charging documents, Richardson and the unnamed man got into a heated dispute in a parking lot adjacent to W. Hamburg Street. Richardson, Clark, and a third co-defendant, Alexis Cancel-Soto, 20, then proceeded to fire shots at the male victim. Holt, who was an uninvolved bystander, was shot in the gunfire and later succumbed to her injuries.
Clark and Richardson both expressed they wished to retain their right to speedy trial. However, due to scheduling conflicts from both the defense and prosecution, the trial is set past the defendants’ respective Hicks dates. The Maryland Hicks rule requires that criminal trials must begin within 180 days of defendants’ initial appearance in circuit court.
The co-defendants are set to return to court for a weeklong trial beginning Oct. 29 before Judge Jeannie J. Hong.
