A man who is charged with the murder of his 5-month-old baby rejected a plea offer and received a trial date on Sept. 23 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Anthony Ford, 24, is charged with second-degree murder, causing abuse, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injury, and first-degree assault.
Ford’s daughter, Brailynn Ford, died on Oct. 7, 2018.
Detectives were called to a hospital three days before, the Baltimore Sun reported, where they found Brailynn with traumatic injuries. Ford said that before she died, he had laid her down and her nose had started bleeding.
The autopsy ruled her death a homicide.
The prosecution offered Ford a plea of life, suspending all but 35 years, and five years of supervised probation for causing abuse.
Ford, who was represented by Tony Garcia, rejected the offer.
A trial date was set for Jan. 25, 2022, more than three years after the incident. Garcia said an earlier trial was suspended, after jury selection started, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
