Trial Postponed in Non-Fatal Shooting on North Calhoun Avenue

On Oct. 4, defendant Michael Middleton, alongside his attorney Maureen O’Leary, appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin H. Schreiber II for a scheduled trial.

However, the prosecutor was tied up in another trial and the stand-in prosecutor requested a postponement.

Judge Schreiber moved the case to reception court before Judge Dana M. Middleton where the trial was postponed to Dec. 19 and will be heard by Judge Robert K. Taylor.

Middleton is charged with possession of firearms in a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, having a gun within 100 yards of the public, concealing a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment, intoxicated endangerment, being intoxicated and causing a public disturbance and disorderly conduct. All of these charges are in connection to an incident on Feb. 23.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer was patrolling the area around Carey Street and Cumberland Street when he heard several gunshots. As he moved toward the sound, he located Middleton at the 1700 block of North Calhoun Street allegedly pointing a handgun in the air, and he was ultimately taken into custody.

Officers asked a nearby corner store for footage in order to evaluate the larger context of the incident. The footage allegedly depicted Middleton discharging his weapon numerous times.
