A 46-year-old Baltimore man was set for trial this April for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, 27-year-old Nikea Jackson last year.
Daya Jones will stand trial beginning April 18, 2023, on charges of first-degree murder and five weapons charges before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Jones.
During reception court on Nov. 30, Jones and his defense attorney rejected a plea offer of 40 years, suspending all but 20 years, with five years probation for first-degree murder, and a consecutive 20 years, suspending all but five years, with the first five years without parole.
The incident in question occurred on April 19, 2021, around 4:30 a.m. when Baltimore Police were called to the 700 block of Woodbourne Avenue for reported gunshots, CBS Baltimore reported. Police found Jackson with a gunshot wound and took her to Sinai Hospital where she died from her injuries.
Jones confessed to Jackson’s murder four days later.
