Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland ordered an April 16 mental observation hearing date to determine vehicular manslaughter defendant Antoinette Harris’ competency to stand trial.
Harris, 25, is charged with negligent vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence with a suspended license, and related automobile violations for allegedly speeding and hitting two pedestrians near the 1400 block of Fleet Street on Nov. 1, 2021. Officers found that Harris, who was driving opposite the direction of traffic in a 2010 Silver Honda with expired temporary tags, hit 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.
One of the pedestrians, Trayon McKnight, was later pronounced dead at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Judge Copeland also set a May 30 trial date, which will proceed pending the results of Harris’ competency evaluation. Harris allegedly suffers from schizophrenia.
At a similar March 12 hearing, Judge Alan C. Lazerow found Harris a danger and ordered she be detained in patient care for further evaluation.
