After more than four years of postponements and delays, a Glen Burnie woman had her jury trial scheduled for April 2023 in connection to the kidnapping and killing of 29-year-old Tiffany Jones.
Bobie Barncord, 32, was arrested on Aug. 22, 2018, when she confessed to Baltimore Police officers that she helped her codefendant, William Turner, kidnap Jones behind a Family Dollar store on the 3600 block of Potee Street the day before.
During court proceedings on Oct. 6, the defendant’s trial was scheduled for April 19, 2023, before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Howard. Defense attorneys Janine Meckler and Amanda Savage represent Barncord; however, Judge Melissa Phinn was notified that Savage would not be present at trial due to maternity leave.
Charges against Barncord include murder, kidnapping, arson, and false imprisonment, as well as conspiracy to those actions.
According to court documents, a witness reported the abduction around 2:30 p.m. and told police that a man— identified as Turner, with the nickname “Philly”—held a knife to Jones’ neck and forced her into a dark-colored Chevy pickup truck. Police learned that the truck belonged to Barncord’s father and arrested Turner the same day as the alleged kidnapping.
On Aug. 22, 2018, police were called to the 3400 block of 7th Street for a reported fire at a vacant, boarded up house. Baltimore City firefighters later found Jones’ body with her arms tied behind her back and legs bound.
She was pronounced dead at 9:19 a.m.
Barncord told police during an interview that she drove the truck at the time of Jones’ kidnapping and was the person who set the victim’s body on fire, court documents state.
Turner was sentenced to life plus 80 years in prison in February 2020.
