Trial Date Set for Woman Accused in Fatal Stabbing

During a scheduling hearing on Nov. 21, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn set a May trial date for a 37-year-old Baltimore woman for the June 30 murder of Donte Chase.

Sherrice Parker, 37, is charged with first-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure after police found Chase, 46, suffering from a stab wound to his chest inside a residence on the 700 block of N. Kenwood Avenue. Investigators reported locating blood throughout the home and on a knife that was recovered between the home’s living and dining rooms.

According to police reports, Parker contacted a family member following the incident and confessed to stabbing Chase. Per court records, Parker’s admission prompted detectives to obtain a search warrant for the Kenwood Avenue home.

Defense attorney Roya Hanna advised Parker to waive her right to speedy trial under the Maryland Hicks rule, which requires that the State brings criminal defendants to trial within 180 days of the defense’s initial appearance in court. Parker agreed, and Judge Phinn accepted the waiver on the record.

Prosecutors told the court that the State has shared most of the evidence with the defense, though a few matters remain pending. No additional motions were addressed during the hearing.

Judge Phinn ultimately scheduled the case to begin May 2, 2026 before Judge Jeannie J. Hong. Proceedings are expected to last four days.
