Some three years after the fact, a trial date has been set for Arnold Jackson, 55, for his alleged connection to the shooting of two victims.
Jackson is charged with two counts of attempted first- and attempted second degree murder, first and second degree assault, one count of reckless endangerment and four firearm offenses for the incident which occurred on the 1600 block of Eutaw Place during the evening of March 23, 2023.
According to charging documents, police responded to the scene finding two Black males suffering from gunshot wounds. One to his left arm, the other victim suffered injury to his torso, back, and chest. Jackson, who is a paraplegic, was allegedly seen on surveillance footage fleeing the scene in a wheelchair.
In July 2024, Jackson was deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial but has since been restored to competence and will be given accessibility accommodations while in court.
In order to stand trial,a defendant must be able to understand the charges against him and be able to help his attorney argue the case.
Meanwhile, defense attorney Marci Johnson filed a “not criminally responsible” plea on Sept. 28 due to concerns about Jackson’s ability to determine right from wrong. A report from a psychiatrist for the defense is pending.
The case is scheduled to start Dec. 1 before Judge Timothy J. Doory.
