Trial Date Set for Man Charged In 2020 Killing of 1-Year-Old

A homicide defendant had his trial date set for June 2023 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on Oct 31.

Paul Dion Hardy Jr. was scheduled to start trial today, but his defense counsel asked for a postponement in order to secure availability for all necessary experts to testify.

Hardy, 34, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in the death of a child younger than 13, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injury, second-degree assault by a custodian, first and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment in connection to an incident on Oct. 8, 2020.

According to CBS News Baltimore, Hardy was arrested in June 2021 in Georgia in connection with the murder of one-year-old Zariea Dixon.

Judge Phinn scheduled Hardy for trial on June 1, 2023, with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Stewart Mays presiding.
