A new plea deal is under negotiations in a case against a homicide suspect.

Roderick Griffin allegedly murdered his girlfriend, 72-year-old Lillian Herndon on April 10, 2020. He is facing charges for first-degree murder, false imprisonment, and theft between the amount of $1,500 and $25,000.

During postponement court on June 14 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn, Todd Oppenheim, Griffin’s defense lawyer, rejected a plea offer for life, suspending all but 60 years, to one count of first-degree murder and one count of theft between $1,500 and $25,000.

Oppenheim requested the case appear in reception court to negotiate another plea deal rather than going straight to trial.

The date is set for July 26.

According to WBAL, officers were called to a home on the 5500 block of The Alameda for a missing persons report. Herndon’s body was found inside and her cause of death was later declared to be asphyxiation.
