Trial continued for Davon “Dae Dae” Butler, 19, Charles “Sleepy” Bowen, 20, and a third teenage boy before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer on April 3.
Butler is currently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one each of armed robbery and firearm use in a felony or violent crime, as well as other firearm related charges in connection to an armed robbery incident that occurred on Feb. 20, 2024.
According to charging documents, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the 800 block of W. Lexington Street for a report of gunfire and a shooting victim in need of treatment. Upon arrival, officers located Darcell Mitchell, 19, suffering from a gunshot wound to his back that proved fatal.
A female and male witness who said they knew Mitchell spoke to officers and positively identified all three suspects from a photo array. Officers later learned the male witness called 911 to request treatment for Mitchell.
The witnesses told officers Butler shot Mitchell after the latter walked away in an attempt to defuse an argument. The other two suspects appeared to be present as backup, they said. They did not know why the trio robbed Mitchell for what was thought to be $50.
The trial continues April 4.
