“The law does not require us to make the best choices,”said the assistant state’s attorney to a jury before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby on April 4, during the first day of trial for a Baltimore man charged with committing a homicide in 2021.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the assistant state’s attorney reminded the jury of the facts of the case.

“We cannot change this tragedy,” said Natalie Finegar, who represents defendant Brandon Beshore.

According to the prosecutor, on June 21, 2021 Beshore and Hudson were engaged in an altercation for unknown reasons which escalated to fighting over a knife. Allegedly, Beshore chased the victim and stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene on bike.

Beshore was charged with first-degree murder, having a deadly weapon with the intent to cause injury, and making a false statement to a peace officer in connection to the fatal stabbing of 33-year-old Daurell Hudson

Finegar argued that the defendant had “legal justification” and insisted that Beshore was “in fear for his life.”

The assistant state’s attorney called their first witness – an interim deputy chief examiner in Maryland. According to the autopsy report, Hudson sustained multiple “sharp force injuries” – which are wounds that indicate a stabbing took place. According to the toxicology report, Hudson had traces of cocaine and fentanyl in his system.

During cross-examination, the witness revealed that none of the injuries observed in Hudson’s autopsy were consistent with defensive wounds.

This trial is scheduled to continue on April 5.
