A victim’s identification of the suspect was the focus of an attempted murder case over an alleged $40 debt July 21 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones.

Corey Pointer, 26, is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, armed robbery, robbery, theft between $1,500 to under $25,000, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, discharging firearms, drug possession with intent to distribute, and firearm/drug trafficking crime for allegedly shooting a women multiple times and stealing her money.

Defense attorney Lawrence Rosenberg disputed the victim’s identification, citing the victim’s first interview with police when she said she didn’t remember anything about the incident.

“Pay attention not only to what they [the prosecution] presents to you, but also pay attention to what they don’t,” Rosenberg said.

The defense argued there was more to the story than initially meets the eye, in an attempt to cast doubt on the veracity and innocence of the victim in relation to this incident. He noted the victim was found with drugs at the hospital and may have ingested them.

Pointer was identified by the victim in a photo array after she recovered, said the prosecutor in opening statements. She would testify and explain the dispute leading to the shooting over $40 that she supposedly owed Pointer.

“It’s a simple case,” the prosecutor said, “What did Corey Pointer do on March 22, 2021?”

Due to the late start only one witness testified, an officer who responded to the scene. He testified that he arrived at the scene and helped delegate the initial investigation.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones is presiding over the trial.

Pointer’s trial resumed testimony on July 22.
